History

The Lenfest Center opened in September 2007, the result of several years of hard work by the H. Chase Lenfest Foundation. The building is 52,000 square feet and contains a basketball court, dance studio, computer lab, library, game room, catering kitchen, and several classrooms and conference rooms. The Lenfest Center is also home to the Squashsmarts program, and boasts 8 professional quality squash courts on the 2nd floor.

Squashsmarts has been serving the youth of Philadelphia since 2001. The program provides studentsĀ in grades 5-12 with the opportunity to learn the spoirt of squash and receive intensive academic and life-skills instruction. Squashsmarts currently operates programs in North and West Philadelphia. For more information visit: www.squashsmarts.org.

In the fall of 2012 the H.Chase Lenfest Foundation took over day-to-day operations of the Lenfest Center and introduced a new schedule of after-school and summer programs. These programs are targeted at students in grades K-12, with an emphasis on grades K-8. The goal of our after-school program is to provide youth with a wide range of athletic and enrichment opportunities, as well as intensive academic support. All of our programs are safe, structured, and fun. Activities are free to participants and enrollment is based on a first-come first-served basis.
